Before the class starts:
Together with Professor Hayes of University of Lethbridge, we have provided students documents which contains the course description, attendance policy, course schedule, how would be evaluated, and useful reference published papers to read in advance, and to perpare molecular model kit and calculator to be used during the classes.

Course description:
This is a condensed Chemistry course that was attended by short-term visiting students from Hokkaido University, as well as students from the University of Lethbridge.
It took place over 12 days (September 5-16, 2023) with Day 12 (September 16) consisting of an optional field trip to one of the Alberta cultural sites.
Days 2 and 6 we had laboratory components.
Day 4 we had presentations by Drs. Hayes and Arteaga Arteaga.
Student presentations were conducted on Day 9 and 10.
On the day 11, September 15, the students attended the “16th Annual Chinook Symposium for Chemistry and Biochemistry” at campus.

Course Subject:
This course aims to connect the foundations of organic and organometallic chemistry with modern research topics. Students will gain an overall view of advanced organic and organometallic chemistry, with a focus on synthesis, chemical structure and reaction chemistry. Students will identify the connection between organic chemistry and related areas, such as biochemistry, environmental science, medicine, etc. The learned concepts will be reinforced by current research topics, such as chirality in pharmaceuticals, photodynamic therapy, ligand design and homogenous catalysis.
